IEA Bioenergy Task 37 Kicks Off New Triennium with a Productive Meeting in Oslo
The IEA Bioenergy Task 37 (Energy from Biogas) successfully launched its 2025–2027 triennium with the first meeting hosted this week in Oslo, Norway, by NORSUS. The gathering brought together international experts to exchange knowledge, shape future collaboration, and engage with national stakeholders.
The week began with participation in the Norwegian Biogas Conference, organized by Biogass Norge. This event provided an excellent opportunity for Task 37 members to connect directly with key players in the Norwegian biogas sector.
To conclude a highly productive week, our group conducted a technical visit to Veas, Norway’s largest wastewater treatment facility, which processes effluent from approximately 1.6 million inhabitants in the Oslo metropolitan area. Veas serves as a model for circular economy implementation, converting biosolids into liquefied biomethane and soil amendment products, and collaborating with HOOP CO2 to capture and distribute carbon dioxide derived from biogas upgrading processes.
A special thanks to our collegue Kari-Anne Lyng and the NORSUS team for their warm hospitality and expert organization.
